The beautiful Sun, Straw and Earthen Floor home is one of our most unique home plans and is a true sanctuary for health and well-being. It has also attracted a lot of attention, and has been featured in the book, "The New Strawbale Home", on the cover and in a feature article in the March/April 2004 issue of Natural Home Magazine, as well as being featured on an episode of HGTV's Extreme Homes. As comfortable as it is innovative, this passive solar strawbale home boasts an entire wall of windows, designed to provide a seamless integration of living space with surrounding nature.
Mountain Sun

Total Sq. Ft.: 2256 Bedrooms: 2 Baths: 2.5
Mountain Sun is designed to be very clean and simple, light and airy. This versatile 1.5 level home functions essentially as a 1,780 square foot single level home, with a large multi-functional 480 square foot view loft above. Mountain Sun is designed to keep all the activities of everyday life close, convenient and on one level for the couple. Because the master suite and one bedroom are on the main level, the main level alone makes an excellent small family home. The upper level loft was intended to be an office, study or library, but could easily be converted to the home's third bedroom. An optional sunroom allows for the potential of a passive solar design. Originally built on a water view lot, Mountain Sun would be an excellent choice for any rear view situation.
Gatehouse
Architect:
Darrel DeBoer
DeBoer Architects
Total Sq. Ft.: 1112 Bedrooms: 1 Baths: 1.0
Gatehouse is a one bedroom passive solar strawbale guest cottage. High ceilings, shed-style roof and curved layout make this an unusual combination of natural earthy materials and modern techno-architecture.
Sun, Straw and Earthen Floor 2
Architect:
Darrel DeBoer
DeBoer Architects
Total Sq. Ft.: 2160 Bedrooms: 3 Baths: 3.0
Based on one of our most celebrated strawbale designs, Sun, Straw and Earthen Floor 2 is an expanded version of the original. In this variation, the master bedroom and one large bedroom are on the ground level, allowing the home to essentially function as a 1,800 square foot single level home. However, a 340 square foot upper level study is easily adapted to become a home office, guest bedroom or the home's third bedroom. Versatility, energy efficiency, excellent building design and healthy building materials all combine to make this passive solar home an excellent choice for a family looking to build both a beautiful and environmentally friendly home.
