Idea Home
Architect:
Michaela Mahady
SALA Architects Inc.
Total Sq. Ft.: 2880 Bedrooms: 4 Baths: 3.5
Michaela Mahady, architect of our long popular Maple Forest series of homes, teamed up with Debra Kees to create this beautiful Craftsman style home. The simple, moderate-pitched gabled roof of the home, the attention to architectural details like horizontal bands of windows, decorative wooden brackets and wood trim, as well as the use three distinctly different exterior textures (brick, stucco and cedar shingles) firmly tie this home to its Arts and Crafts past. Yet, with a nod towards the varying needs of the modern family, careful attention was given to architectural and building design, making this home one of our most versatile in terms of construction. It is easily built in sizes from as small as 2,397 square feet to as large as 2,880 square feet. And it is designed to be able to fit on a narrow suburban lot, yet is equally at home on rural acreage with plenty of elbow-room.

Total Sq. Ft.: 2747 Bedrooms: 3 Baths: 2.5
Originally designed for an avid gardener, the Courtyard House was inspired by the small barns and barnyards that helped to define the character of its original country setting. The design centers on a central garden courtyard surrounded by an arbor and the simple shed-roofed forms of the L-shaped house. The garden is conceived as the primary space with all rooms located around it.

Total Sq. Ft.: 2653 Bedrooms: 3 Baths: 2.0
Hillside House is a contemporary Arts and Crafts style home, designed to take advantage of broad rearward views. Each of the main spaces within the house faces a view, making a strong connection between the interior and the landscape outside. The octagonal central volume of this home acts like an architectural hinge in the design, and this same shape creates a spectacular tower room in the upper level.
