Description

This home gets its name from the Village of Stockbridge on the east shore of Lake Winnebago. The Stockbridge is not only designed to use space efficiently, but volume as well. Nearly all the space under its roof is utilized as living space. This shingle style craftsman home has steep prominent intersecting gables with a softened perimeter roof edge. Elegant tapered wood columns line the entry porch on the exterior and are used to define interior spaces on the main floor as well.

Entry into this home is through a welcoming covered front porch. The modest foyer opens directly into the open floorplan of the of the dining, living and kitchen area. Light from the large glass French doors opposite the entry draws you into the center of the home. To the left is an open kitchen with its island cooking area. To the right is the living room, where your eye is drawn to the room-grounding fireplace. All these spaces are separated from each other only by an exposed wood beams, and decorative wood columns.

This home has the large master suite on the main floor and two additional bedrooms on the second floor. The design allows the couple to live primarily on the 1,064 square feet of the main level, while leaving the upper of the home for guests or children's bedrooms. The master suite has a walk-in closet, and a walk-through dressing area leading to the master bath. The second floor bedrooms are mirror images of one another. Both are large, and each has spacious walk-in closets and separate study areas. There is access to under-roof storage on both sides of both rooms.

The garage of the home is only semi-attached to the main home. This is a quintessential healthy home design feature, and allows for the garage to be easily ventilated and to be sealed air-tight from the main home. Additionally, connection of the garage to the main home is through the laundry, which is designed so that it can be built as an energy efficient and healthy airlock style entry. From a building perspective, this style of garage also allows for easy changes of orientation and/or distance from the main home, depending on your lot slope, size or preference.
