Originally built on a bluff with a view overlooking a majestic bend in a river, the Mountain House responds to the drama of the landscape with an ancient form; a broad, sloping gable roof. Detailed in board and batten siding with a dynamic rhythm of timber post-and-beam construction, the house is inspired by the picturesque stick style of A. J. Downing and the Adirondack Great Camps of the late 19th century.

Wider than it is deep, and featuring a two story rear porch, upper level rear balcony and ample rear windows, the entire house is oriented toward the view. Windows are minimized on the entry side of the home in favor of more and larger ones the sides and back. Upon entering the wood floored foyer of this home, angled walls direct you both left and right of the central fireplace. Your gaze is drawn through the living room and its exposed wood beams, to the windows and view beyond. The effect is to not only make the room feel larger, but the choice of paths inspires a sense of curiosity and exploration. You are compelled to enter and explore. To the left you will find the home's large kitchen and adjacent pantry/laundry. To the right you will find the home's master suite with its cathedral ceiling and large master bath. With the master bedroom on the same level as the home's daily living areas, the couple has the option of living almost exclusively on the main level, leaving the upper level for kid's bedrooms, guest rooms, or similar uses.

The upper level contains the home's other two bedrooms. One bedroom is tucked into a broad shed roofed dormer, and has views to the side of the house. The other bedroom has views to the rear, and features its own private balcony. Both this bedroom and the upstairs hallway have high ceilings.

The basement of this home has been left unfinished. It is the size and shape of the main level. The wider shape of the basement foundation lends itself to adaptation to a rear facing daylight basements, that are so common on down-sloping river, lake and ocean front lots.
