Description

The Burleigh House in Milwaukee, Wisconsin inspired this 2-story craftsman farmhouse. This unique design has two crossing gables with partial shed dormers that bring light in throughout the second floor space. Exterior siding is low-maintenance fiber-cement shake above fiber-cement plank. The first floor has an open floor plan with 9 foot ceilings, and spaces separated by beautiful dropped beams and decorative arts & crafts columns, rather than view-blocking walls. A built-in breakfast booth overlooks the entry porch and living room. A screen porch acts as a nearly 200 square foot extension of the home during warm weather, and is accessible from the entry colonnade, the entry porch, and the back yard. Its screens are designed to be removed if desired, allowing it to function as a wrap-around porch. The large mudroom / laundry is designed so that it can be made into an energy efficient and healthy airlock style entry, separating the garage from the main home. All of the main level calls for elegant and healthy solid surface flooring. There is ceramic tile in the half-bath, mudroom and entry, and hardwood in the living, dining, and kitchen.

The upper level contains the home's three bedrooms. The master suite is very large, and boasts a walk-in closet, large dressing area and master bath. The other two bedrooms are moderate in size, but very efficiently use space by having large organized closets with built-in dressers. These two rooms share a common bath. All the bedrooms are tucked under the steeply pitched 18 in 12 roof of the home, and have sloped ceilings on their sides that vault to a flat 9 foot center. There is under-eve storage access in the master bedroom and bedroom #2.

The plan is designed with an unfinished basement about the size and shape of the main level. This allows for easy adaptation to various room configurations and/or lot slopes. It also allows for easy conversion to other foundation types if the basement is not needed or desired.
