Description

This home gets its name from the Wisconsin community at the foot of Lake Winnebago. The Winnebago Indians called this area Fond du Lac or "Foot of the Lake". This design is based on the Arts & Crafts cottages that are common around the lake. The steep roofs are effective in keeping snow drifting to a minimum and allow the space under the structure to be utilized as living area. The shed dormers are a very simple geometry so as not to detract from the strong massing of the 2 prominent gable roofs.

Formal entry into the home is through a covered front porch and into a tiled foyer. The interior floor plan is open with long sightlines from front to back and side to side, giving the home a much larger feel than its compact footprint. Light from the well placed windows in the kitchen area, at the far side opposite the entry, draw you deep into the heart of the home. Wood columns and beams are used to vary ceiling height and to visually divide room areas without the need for view obstructing interior walls. The only room separated from the rest of the main level is a study to the left of the entry that is designed to double as a guest bedroom. Less formal entry into the breezeway is also possible from the front, rear or through the semi-attached three car garage.

At the top of the stairs is a large well-lit sitting area. There is access here to a very large storage area over the garage. The master suite features vaulted ceilings, a walk-in dressing area flanked by built in dressers, and a large master bath tucked into one of the homes shed roofed dormers. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are similarly tucked snugly into dormers, and are separated by a shared bath.
